Why do I need a root canal?

Teeth with deep cracks, old fillings, or internal decay often require root canal therapy. If the trauma penetrates the interior of the tooth, bacteria can fill the canals that lead to the bone tissue. If left untreated, this bacteria can spread, create an infection, and eventually result in tooth and bone loss. Root canal therapy involves removing the bacteria, cleaning the canals, and filling them with a rubberized, inert substance.

In the past, a tooth that sustained internal damage would have to be extracted and replaced with a prosthetic. Using modern tools and methods, Dr. Edderai can removed the damaged tissue and save the original tooth. Dr. Edderai has received training in endodontics (root canals) and often performs the procedure in the convenience of our Miami dental office.

How long will root canal therapy take?

In most cases, the procedure can be performed in a single visit to our Miami Beach dental office. However, we will need to see you back in our office to place a dental crown over the treated tooth. The crown strengthens the tooth and helps prevent re-infection. After root canal therapy and crown placement, the treated tooth can last you a lifetime.
