Flossing is an integral part of mouth hygiene. Maybe if someone would rap it, we could get more people to pay attention to this task. People usually believe flossing is just for after the BBQ. (It’s not.)

Flossing should be done regularly, like you brush your teeth, which you should be doing regularly after meals (in case you are not).

So below you can find the ground rules for flossing:

Do you need to floss daily? Yes, if you are not fond of gum disease. You have to be gentle while flossing. There is such a thing as over-flossing or wrong flossing. When your gums start bleeding, if you have sensitive gums, or if you have braces, you must consult and convey such condition to Dr.Jean-Jacques Edderai. Only when you floss regularly you can, as we rapped above, prevent plaque from accumulating in between your teeth and getting them to stay healthy.

 Do you need special equipment? Yes. You can use a waxed or unwaxed floss, dental tape, hand floss, electric floss or spongy floss. Those are the different types we recommend.

 Is there a special way to do it? Yes. Flossing is a very technical piece of hygienic cleaning, and you have to do it right if you want it to be effective. As the purpose of flossing is to rid you teeth of harmful substances that could damage your gums, you want to make sure that you effectively remove foreign particles from your mouth from every nook and corner.

 Also: use a fresh piece of floss every time you do it.

While there are 101 ways to take care of your teeth, there’s one very easy and convenient way to take great care of your teeth. And the secret ingredient is probably sitting in your kitchen right now: Baking Soda and Salt!

Yes, you read that right.

Here’s how you go about it:

Mix up a small bottle of baking soda and salt, in equal proportions. Keep it handy in your bathroom so you don’t forget it! Keep a small container nearby in which you can mix the powder with a bit of water to make a paste for a one time use. Keep the rest of the powder dry. Skip the toothpaste and mouthwash and teeth gum once a month, and load your toothbrush with the paste of baking soda and salt. Brush your teeth like you would with toothpaste: left, right, over, under, circle and brush! Rinse your mouth and toothbrush after every brushing.

What’s so special in baking powder?

Baking powdersodium bicarbonate – is a weak alkali. It contains free radicals which, when combined with salt and water, remove stains from the teeth enamel. Baking powder can loosen and whiten dark stains caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, gums and sodas.

Precautions:

Don’t continue using if it causes an unpleasant burning or tingling. Remember that soda is not anti-bacterial and you will need to use toothpaste to protect against cavities. Baking soda also has an abrasive property, so don’t use it too much – once a month is suitable.

Dental decay can be avoided by taking good care of children’s teeth from the very start. Many infections and diseases are passed through the child’s body because of bacteria in the mouth and infected teeth. Dental care for children starts before their first tooth grows out, and ensures that their milk teeth are healthy and straight, and their secondary teeth grow out properly after the milk teeth fall out.

 

Here’s what you can do to protect your children’s teeth:

 

Step 1: Get a Medical Checkup

Before a child turns 1, it must have had a dental checkup to ensure that everything is in order. In some rare cases, children’s jaws are not developed enough to let the tooth grow out, which results in a very painful teething time for the child. All kinds of chewing toys that are given to toddlers to soothe itching gums must be medically approved.

Generally, the entire diet affects dental health. Try to incorporate healthy foods in their diet, and hard snacks such as carrots and bread sticks.

I can only assume that’s because it takes all kinds of people to make up the world. Their job is to look into your mouth and try hard to find things wrong with you gums, teeth or jaw bone structures, because, let’s face it, that’s how they’ll finance their luxury yacht family holidays.

 5.   Eat grass as much as possible- cows, sheep, horses and goats. They all survive on grass and they get along fine with it. I have yet to see a goat with tooth ache. So there.

Teeth are basically made up of calcium and have a protective covering called ‘enamel’ which keeps them white, strong and healthy. When the enamel wears out or dissolves because of abrasive toothpastes and lack of nutrition, the tooth chips, breaks and becomes discolored.

Waking up in the middle of night and clutching your cheek while you writhe in pain is no amusing thing. Not being able to concentrate for an exam the other day, the dentist not being available on Sundays or any given holyday(doesn’t happened with Dr.Jean-Jacques Edderai) and painkillers not working on tooth aches are just a few things that highlight how important it is to get rid of the toothaches. In such conditions these are the five most effective and commonly used practices that may not only reduce but in some instances cure the pain in your teeth.

  • The usual treatments

Teeth are a sensitive matter and it is important that a person takes care of them in order to not cause the pain in the first place. Now that the pain has started the usual routine would be to take painkillers, brush or floss your teeth to clean out whatever is stuck in your teeth, the fluoride helping to numb the bacteria. You can also try different gels that are used for numbing the effect of the pain and not eat from the sides where your teeth are extra sensitive. Peppermint leaves have certain soothing qualities and is used in the making of many types of toothpaste. Mint has anti-fungal properties that will kill the bacteria and the cooling effect would prevent the pain from happening again. You can either chew the leaves or extract the juice from it to apply to the area that is aching.

 

 

  • Using Cloves

Cloves are one of those spices that can instantly ease you from pain. As much as chocolate lovers hate to think about the cons of eating chocolates, eating chocolates does have its negative effects on your teeth. Though this is not eliminating the pros that eating this candy has, but the cons should be more of a thought to you rather than the pros. Dark chocolate can also stain our teeth especially and has the potential of causing deep stains, however, these can only be removed easily by any of our hygenists during your scheduled cleanings.

Chocolate candies are known to be one of the major contributors of tooth decay, though it is good to have chocolate, but it should be done in moderation, it must be taken in small amounts and not too often, and to avoid hard tooth stains that chocolate intake may cause, it is advised to rinse your teeth with water immediately after consumption. We need to know how important our dental hygiene is, as it can have a huge influence on the different systems within our body.

Eating chocolate supports Streptococcus, a strep throat causing bacteria and also causes tooth decay. Chocolate helps Streptococcus to survive in the human system which causes a sore throat at the early stage and the longer effect affects the immune system.

On its pure nature, chocolate has a special antioxidant that inhibits the growth of some bacteria that produces acid which affects the health of the teeth, making it good for the teeth. However, we need to take our chocolate intake seriously because the chocolate being sold around this days are not so pure, they are adulterated with certain products to make it taste better with varieties such as chocolate drinks and chocolate candy.

Sugar and cocoa butter are the main ingredients in chocolate. While cocoa butter possesses antioxidants that help in the protection of the teeth due to the coating effect that prevents plagues from sticking to the teeth and reducing the chances of tooth decay. The other ingredient being sugar is the major cause of concern, because sugar does not only increases the production of acid but also increases the probability of plague sticking to the teeth. High sugar levels also bring higher level of calories and cause the enamel of the teeth to erode.

Chocolate provides both the good and the bad parts of its consumption, for individuals that can’t do without its consumption can reconcile the discrepancy by monitoring their chocolate intake, and avoid taking it in excess, as excess intake will definitely hurt you. According to a study on chocolate intake, it is advised to consumption nothing more than an ounce of dark chocolate three times in a duration of a week. This would be perfect for the health of your teeth and the whole body.
