Here’s the Perfect and Easy Way

to Take Great Care of Your Teeth

Having a good dental hygiene routine is essential and really makes a great difference to how your teeth look, and how long they will last. Remember you only have two sets of teeth – take good care of them! Implants and artificial teeth are becoming increasingly common and accessible, but nothing beats having a full set of healthy, pearly whites!

While there are 101 ways to take care of your teeth, there’s one very easy and convenient way to take great care of your teeth. And the secret ingredient is probably sitting in your kitchen right now: Baking Soda and Salt!

Yes, you read that right.

Here’s how you go about it:

Mix up a small bottle of baking soda and salt, in equal proportions. Keep it handy in your bathroom so you don’t forget it! Keep a small container nearby in which you can mix the powder with a bit of water to make a paste for a one time use. Keep the rest of the powder dry. Skip the toothpaste and mouthwash and teeth gum once a month, and load your toothbrush with the paste of baking soda and salt. Brush your teeth like you would with toothpaste: left, right, over, under, circle and brush! Rinse your mouth and toothbrush after every brushing.

What’s so special in baking powder?

Baking powdersodium bicarbonate – is a weak alkali. It contains free radicals which, when combined with salt and water, remove stains from the teeth enamel. Baking powder can loosen and whiten dark stains caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, gums and sodas.

Precautions:

Don’t continue using if it causes an unpleasant burning or tingling. Remember that soda is not anti-bacterial and you will need to use toothpaste to protect against cavities. Baking soda also has an abrasive property, so don’t use it too much – once a month is suitable.

Do Not Ignore your Wisdom Teeth

Our third molars are referred to as our Wisdom Teeth. Located at the very back end of your set lined up teeth, wisdom teeth are usually the last to develop, usually during the ages of 15 to 30 years. And since they have been traditionally associated with this age to describe the onset of maturity and the attainment of “wisdom”, they have been termed as Wisdom teeth and are believed to be “evolutionary relics” that helped our ancestors who ate diets of rougher foods like sticks and plants. As teeth wore down or fell out, wisdom teeth provided replacements. With today’s advancements in dentistry and oral hygiene, we don’t really need replacement teeth.

Hence, most dentists and Maxillofacial surgeons recommend that we extract out wisdom teeth before they can cause us any problems because of their alignment. The most common symptom of wisdom teeth is pain at the back of the mouth, right behind the molars that could sometimes reflect pain to your jaw, neck and temporal region. This pain gradually increases, due to the tooth growing sideways away from the rest of the surrounding molars they get in the way and the misalignment compresses the bone and adjoining nerves.

The area becomes very sensitive and swells with a reddish color and the pain could become importunate . You should relate this information to your dentist immediately as it’s possible to experience wisdom teeth symptoms. During the natural growing process the tooth cuts through the surface of the gum, it results in open (gingiva) tissue. This allows bacteria to make its way in to the opening causing a localized infection. Sometimes, the pain of the infection-inflamation is so severe, that it could have an overall effect on your general health as well.

At other times, the wisdom tooth can be blocked from coming out due to restricted space caused by the jaw bone dimension and the neighboring teeth. This is called an impacted tooth. And while the tooth cannot come out, the roots, however, will continue to elongate if the growing process hasn’t finished. The longer the tooth remains inside, the more prolonged the process will be and consequently more pain will be experienced.

Remember that fetid breath, bad taste upon chewing food, redness and swelling are all associated with an infection. So if you are experiencing some pain at the back of your mouth where the wisdom teeth would be, consult a dentist immediately. If it is indeed your wisdom tooth that is troubling you, your dentists will get it extracted either under local or general anesthesia. Make sure to discuss any complications before the procedure.

If your wisdom teeth have already erupted, they can be easily removed if space in your jaw will be an issue; impacted teeth on the other hand can be a little more complicated. The procedure requires an incision to be made in the gum and sometimes the removal of the covering bone. Only then can this tooth be removed.

Wisdom teeth extraction is a common procedure and is likely the best solution to relieve your symptoms.
