WHAT CAUSES STAINED TEETH?

Stained teeth are a major problem faced by almost every other person these days. A recent study suggests that majority of the people want to brighten their teeth up to enhance their smiles. Stained teeth give a really bad impression about a person and shatter his self-confidence greatly. There are many causes for stained teeth and each on has a unique reason therefore, the treatments for every cause are also different. Following are the ways for you to identify the cause of stained teeth.

BY TOBACCO USAGE

Eating tobacco or smoking causes teeth discolouration.

DISCOLORATION CAUSED BY FOOD

Fruits like potatoes and apples, and drinks such as coke, wine, tea and coffee may discolour your teeth. 

UNHEALTHY DENTAL HYGIENE

Using antiseptic mouth rinses for getting rid of stain causing items like tobacco and coffee and plaque, flossing and insufficient brushing may cause stained teeth.

MEDICINES

Treatments like chemotherapy and radiations can lead to stained teeth. Additionally, some contagions in pregnant women also cause stained teeth in the babies by disturbing the formation of the enamel.

MOUTH WASHES

Mouthwashes loaded with chemicals such as cetylpyridinium chloride and chlorhexidine may also lead to teeth discoloration

INHERITANCE

Few people have thicker and shinier enamel than the rest by birth.

OLD AGE

With the passage of time, the exterior coating of the enamel on your tooth shreds off and shows the natural yellowish shade of the dentin.

INJURY

Your teeth may also be discoloured if you have fallen at a very young age (below 8) that has disturbed the development of the enamel. An injury can also cause stained teeth in adults.

EXTREME USE OF FLOURIDE

Extreme fluoride usage from toothpaste, mouthwashes and oral supplements or from the surroundings (by using salty water frequently) can lead to stained teeth.

Paying regular visits to a dentist for proper oral hygiene and advice is highly necessary to avoid stained teeth. Visit your dentist as soon as possible if you have stained teeth for any of the above mentioned reason to get treated.
