A lot has been said about the impact of red wine on human health. Many people believe that consuming a glass of red wine a day contribute to a healthy lifestyle, while some other think that the hype that red wine enjoy is overrated. There is no doubt that red wine is good for the body; however, the aspect that is of great concern is how useful it is and how much benefit does it have on our overall health. Drinking red wine moderately has been shown to have health benefits due to its high composition of antioxidants and little alcohol content in the wine. They are often made by the fermentation of dark coloured whole grapes which high in antioxidants such as catechin, proanthocyanidins, resveratrol, and epicatechin. Red wine comes in a variety of types, colour as well as taste. The popularly known types of red wine include cabernet sauvignon, Zinfandel, Shiraz, pinot noir and merlot. These antioxidants reduce the damages caused by oxidation in the body, and they also help in fighting against cancer as well as heart diseases.
The health benefits of these antioxidants present in red wine also include protecting the body against blood clothing as well as fighting against any form of inflammation. Red wine consumption has been linked to decreasing the risk of developing depression among elderly and middle age people. It is believed that drink between two to seven cups of red wine per week reduces the risk of being depressed.
Red wine consumption is related to the prevention of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease compared to consuming hard liquor and beer. Though, moderation is what matters here because, since red wine contains alcohol, too much of it will cause alcoholic fatty liver disease. This type of wine has many health benefits, and one of the benefits is protecting the body against cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the cancers that red wine help to protect the body from. When you consume four to seven glasses of red wine per week, you will be cutting the chances of being diagnosed with prostate cancer by half. Breast cancer is another type of cancer that red wine protects the body from. Alcohol consumption increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
According to studies that have been carried out by scientist, have shown that the seeds of grape contain a chemical that increases the testosterone of pre-menopausal women as well as decreases their levels of oestrogen. Other health benefits of red wine include prevention of blindness, fights against type 2 diabetes in women, slowing down of the ageing process, fights against bowel cancer and improving the functioning of the ה.
It is evident that drinking red wine is good for the body, however, to avoid the harmful effects of alcohol, it has to be consumed in moderation.
